An iPhone app that tracks down the Taliban has been developed by a US soldier who put $26,000 of his own money into the project. The idea for a smartphone application to assist soldiers in combat came to Captain Jonathan J. Springer in a dream last July. The 31-year-old, from Fort Wayne, Indiana, has worked with programmers ever since to make the idea a reality. Tactical Nav, which is expected to be available through Apples App Store next month, assists soldiers in mapping, plotting and photographing waypoints on a battleground and conveying coordinates to supporting units.

Nigeria Swears in New Christian President (To take the place of Muslim predecessor who just died)
Posted by admin / Under Jonathan Agnew
Nigeria swore in its new president, a Christian, this week after months of leadership confusion while its elected president was receiving medical treatment. Goodluck Jonathan, who has been Nigerias acting president since February, officially became president of Nigeria on Thursday. His Muslim predecessor, Umaru YarAdua, died on Wednesday despite extensive treatment, including a medical stay in Saudi Arabia. The peaceful power shift provides stability to the oil-rich country, avoiding Nigerias history of military coups whenever there was a leadership vacuum. It is unclear at the moment if Jonathan will run for the office of president during the next election. Nigeria,...

Nigeria: Vice president now acting president (Vice President Goodluck Jonathan)
Posted by admin / Under Jonathan Agnew
ABUJA, Nigeria Nigeria's parliament empowered Vice President Goodluck Jonathan to run Africa's most populous nation Tuesday in place of an ill and absent president, striving for a political end to a crisis that ground the government to a virtual halt and triggered the resumption of an insurgency in the vital oil sector. But the move is not contemplated in the constitution, legal experts say, and could cause more friction between the Christian south, which gains the presidency at least temporarily, and Muslim north, which finds itself out of the seat of power. Jonathan told the nation in a televised...

Clinton foe struggles for visibility
Posted by admin / Under Jonathan Agnew
NEW YORK - Anti-war Democrat Jonathan Tasini's long-shot bid to oust New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton should be riding a crest of momentum now. Just weeks ago in nearby Connecticut, another anti-war upstart, Ned Lamont, stunned the political world, defeating Sen. Joe Lieberman in the Democratic primary. Flush with victory, liberal activists and bloggers who helped drive Lamont's candidacy sought out other prey. But with less than three weeks until New York's Sept. 12 primary, Tasini remains unknown to most Democratic voters and overpowered by Clinton's celebrity and vast fund-raising edge. Bloggers have remained largely on the sidelines, choosing...

George Washington, Jonathan Pollard and the Jews

Editor's note: Esther Pollard is the wife of imprisoned spy Jonathan Pollard, a former U.S. Navy intelligence analyst who was convicted in 1985 of one count of passing classified information to an ally, Israel, and sentenced to life imprisonment in spite of a plea agreement that was to spare him such a sentence. Jonathan became the only person in the history of the United States to receive life imprisonment for spying for an ally. Esther discusses recent developments related to a bombshell lawsuit filed on behalf of her husband charging that Jonathan's lawyer at the time of his sentencing, Richard...

The purpose of FreeRepublic.com's multiple message boards is to limit the topics for each board to particular topics. Posting the same message on all the boards defeats the purpose of multiple-boards for special topics. It is very annoying to see the same message on every bulletin board. PLEASE! DO THE READERS A FAVOR. STOP CROSS-POSTING YOUR MESSAGES!

A TRAITOR IS A TRAITOR (Another view of the Jonathan Pollard case)
Posted by admin / Under Jonathan Agnew

September 3, 2003 -- JONATHAN Pollard, convicted spy, would like to be set free. His advocates in the United States also want Pollard to go free. And his one-time paymasters in Israel badly want him to go free. Pollard was in court yesterday asking for a reduction in his sentence. But he should have been executed for his crimes. His life sentence was a mercy he didn't deserve. Releasing him from prison while he's still breathing would be terrible for America - and even worse for Israel.

Hendel Asks What About Pollard?
Posted by admin / Under Jonathan Agnew
IsraelNN.com) Deputy Minister (National Union) Tzvi Hendel today asked once again that the issue of the release of PA prisoners be linked to America's release of Jonathan Pollard. Hendel added "the impertinence cries to the heavens", explaining that while we continue to release terrorists, Jonathan Pollard remains in a US prison. Other requests made to the prime minister to link prisoner releases to the release of Pollard and Israeli citizen Azzam Azzam [who is imprisoned in Egypt] have been rejected by Prime Minister Sharon.

It's time to release Jonathan Pollard.

In 1995, an American Naval officer named Michael Schwartz (a non-Jew) was arrested and, after confessing, indicted for spying for Saudi Arabia, an American ally. Schwartz's only punishment was discharge from the Navy with the loss of his rank and pension. He never spent a day in prison. In 1986, Dr. Abdel Kader Helmy was arrested and indicted for passing American ballistic missile secrets and parts to Egypt, which then passed them on to Iraq. Helmy's treachery led directly to Iraq's development of the Condor missile. At the insistence of both the State and the Defense Departments, Helmy was indicted...
